Kids will be kids. At Steps to Success2 in Staten Island we understand children and also the importance of boosting self esteem starting at a young age. It’s a known fact that children with higher self esteem progress through life with less difficulty and are generally happier overall. Some of the things we do and suggest the parents of our students continue at home are:
- Caregivers need to consider their own self-esteem, and be willing to admit mistakes.
- Praise the efforts toward a goal, not only the results. If your child can get one arm in the sleeve, but not both, recognize that it’s still an accomplishment and that they are on the way to getting the whole coat on soon.
- Understand that each child is an individual, in different stages, from different cultures and family combinations.
- Provide opportunities to learn and let them feel proud of accomplishments. Let your child set the table or wrap a present, even if it’s not the way you would do it.
- If kids do something wrong, help them recognize that the behavior is harmful to themselves or others, but they are not bad, stupid or worthless. Remember that everyone makes mistakes.
- Activities – keep them busy with exciting activities to boost interaction with other kids.
Feel free to contact us if you have questions about your childs self esteem and how Steps to Success 2 a Staten Island Day Care can help with early childhood education.
